Interpreting and Reporting Estimates, Confidence Intervals, and P values (live webinar; 1 hour in duration )

Tom Lang (Tom Lang Communications, USA)

During this 1-hour live webinar, Tom will build on the previous webinar on interpreting and reporting descriptive statistics by exploring the reasoning behind confidence intervals and hypothesis testing. Participants will learn the strengths and weaknesses of P values, estimates and measures of precision when reporting research results. In the delivery of the webinar, it will be assumed that the participants have no background in the topic, and all focus will be on the interpreting and reporting of statistics, not on calculating them.

Cactus Communications / Editage reserves the right to cancel or reschedule a webinar event in a situation where there is an inability to broadcast the event by the presenter and/or the moderator (i.e., electric, telephone, or internet-connection outage, computer malfunction, presenter or moderator not available, etc.). In the event that a registrant is not able to participate at the rescheduled time, a full refund will be negotiated or the registrant will be able to view a recorded version of the rescheduled (or similar) event at a reduced price.

NOTE: All guidance regarding access to the webinar will be supplied by e-mail within 24 hours after purchase of an event ticket. Optimum performace of the webinar interface (WebEx) requires high-speed Internet access. Webinar fees DO NOT include the cost of long-distance dial-in telephone service to the WebEx teleconference system in the USA: 1-(408)-792-6300. Dial-in telephone service will be the responsibility of the participant. As a courtesy, the audio portion of the webinar will also be streamed via VoIP within the WebEx interface. Upon signing in at the time of the webinar, you will have the option of participating by VoIP (requires a computer microphone and speakers) OR by telephone dial-in.

Book Overview

How To Report Statistics in Medicine (Lang and Secic, 2006)

"How To Report Statistics in Medicine," second edition, was published in July 2006 by the American College of Physicians (ACP), the nation's largest medical-specialty society. The second edition revises and expands a popular text that has become a standard guide in the fields of medical writing, scientific publications, and evidence-based medicine.

As in the first edition, the authors -- respected medical editor/writer and scientific writing instructor Thomas A. Lang, MA, and biostatistician and statistical consultant Michelle Secic, MS -- again stress that "How To Report Statistics in Medicine," second edition, is not a text on analyzing or calculating statistics but rather a guide to interpreting and reporting them. It was written for authors, editors, and reviewers who prepare or evaluate biomedical research for publication, especially in peer-reviewed journals.
